On this episode of The Developers Speak, Alex shares a tip on how to better understand what your end users are asking for.
Hi, I'm Alex Mracek. I'm a developer at Digital Mass. And today I want to talk about why it's so important for developers to understand the business process of their end-users, as well as how their end-users talk about the problems that they're experiencing. When a developer doesn't have these skills, they can waste time, money, and effort building solutions that don't cut to the core of the problems that their end-users are experiencing. And at the end of the day as developers, our job is to make our end-users lives better and make their work more efficient and easier to do. One way to go about gaining this skill is to take time out of your day and schedule some shadowing sessions with your end-users. I also picked up on when they saw things, how they talked about them. You know, we have a different vocabulary on the dev side than the end-users, so helping to sync up and connect those two things allowed me to see emails later on where they were experiencing issues. And I could diagnose the problems much faster. All these things make the end user's lives much better, and it saves you time as well as you're always building the right thing. That's pretty much all the developers have to say today.
